Transfer cases part of a four-wheel-drive drivetrain system.  The function of the transfer case is to engage and disengage the four-wheel-drive when activated and de-activated.  The transfer case is an aluminum or steel housing under the vehicle and the vast majority of transfer cases are either chain based or gear based.

Due to the moving parts inside of your truck or SUV’s transfer case, periodic maintenance needs to be performed to maximize its lifespan.  Usually, draining the fluid from the transfer case and refilling it with new, clean fluid constitutes the required maintenance.  You should consult the owner’s manual and schedule an appointment for regular service.
